Hey all – thanks for stopping by today! I am very excited to share some of my life with you today. I was recently encouraged by Havenly – an online interior design and decorating service provider – to join a conversation across the blogging community, sharing what beloved decor pieces are in our homes. Check them out by clicking here –> Havenly
I was honored and flattered to be a part of this and I knew right away what in my home I was going to feature…our beloved hoosier cabinet in our dining room! This hoosier cabinet you see below is around 100 years old – it was my great grandparents. Amazing right! This sweet photo is them sitting in front of it!
My mom had it sitting in her basement for years covered with so many random things and when my husband and I got our first home, she offered it to us. Below is how it came to us!
She knew we were the only old souls of the young generation who would appreciate it and be willing to redo it! It wasn’t awful in it’s original condition…but it just looked worn out and not totally our style with the fruit decals and yellowed paint coloring considering we have white trim. My husband was luckily on board with me and we had a vision of it in our dining room as a beverage/bar/buffet/decor mainstay!
See the DIY transformation post HERE from a couple years ago…
It was important to us to preserve it’s natural beauty but give ourselves the liberty to update it a little to fit our home and style. We weren’t fans of the counter – many might be but since we were painting it a stark white, it would almost stick out as being dingy. My husband had the great idea to do a wood slab and stain it a rich walnut – and it turned out gorgeous!
We kept a lot of original elements because why would we go and remove such character!
This super fun basket inside the bottom cabinet was too fun to get rid of. Sometimes it houses our tonic bottles and other times it’s for our place mats…very multipurpose.
This amazingly cool drum for sifting flour through in its’ original use couldn’t be touched. We cleaned it up and just leave it to show off and there has been talk to somehow turn it into a bar/snack mix dispenser!
The last main thing we preserved and I’m so glad we did is the hardware. We considered at first buying new but these just fit the piece so we stripped them and repainted. I adore them!
Now you might ask…how do I use this piece in our home on the day to day or special occasions! Well let me tell you, it is so versatile and so fun to stage! I’ve styled it a million different ways for parties and holidays as well as day to day casual use, so I thought I would share those ideas with you! Get ready for hoosier cabinet photo overload!
So first I’m going to show you how I have it styled now for summertime…just a fun floral bar set up!
You can never have too many bright colors in the summer and I just love the bright colors of citrus! The citrus print you see featured is for sale in my Etsy shop so hop on over by clicking HERE if you like it!
The main area as you’ll see that I dress up in the hoosier is the bread box area – there use to be a roll down wooden covering there but we wanted to leave it open for depth and the purpose of adding decor elements!
For parties…here are some fun ways to dress up this historic hoosier cabinet
And then this was my sweet baby girl’s 2nd birthday tea party!
So you’ve seen some party set up ideas now I have some holiday set up ideas!
Here is a cute colorful Easter set up!
And here is our Christmas vignette from last year!
As you can see there are so many ways to style it up and make it casual! I hope you’ve enjoyed this highlight of my beloved decor piece as inspired by Havenly! Thanks for stopping by!
